Following the new Belgian law published in 2002, "Foundations" have acquired a legal persona, accompanied with very specific conditions. As a consequence, the term "Foundation" is now reserved.
Because our organisation was already registered under the Belgian law as an Association Sans But Lucratif (ASBL), we have to remove the word "foundation" in order to avoid any confusion and to comply with the new law.
Our new name is now "Zangdok Palri Lotus". Under this new name, we wish to be able to help even more people and help them realize their full potential as a human being.

Cultural diversity: UNESCO approved the Convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions

20 Oct 2005 - The General Conference of UNESCO, meeting in Paris adopted today the Convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions. This new international instrument will enter into force three months after its ratification by 30 States.

In 2001, the UNESCO What is cultural diversity Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, was adopted unanimously: cultural diversity is to be considered as a "common heritage of humanity", and its "defence as an ethical imperative, inseparable from respect for human dignity." Cultural diversity is recognized by development experts as a key factor favoring development; it's a source of creativity and wisdom which moves populations forward.

"The Declaration aims both to preserve cultural diversity as a living, and thus renewable treasure that must not be perceived as being unchanging
heritage but as a process guaranteeing the survival of humanity; and to prevent segregation and fundamentalism which, in the name of cultural
differences, would sanctify those differences and so counter the message of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Universal Declaration makes it clear that each individual must acknowledge not only otherness in all its forms but also the plurality
of his or her own identity, within societies that are themselves plural. Only in this way can cultural diversity be preserved as an adaptive process
and as a capacity for expression, creation and innovation.
