A school for the Tibetan children of Dzogchen

Situated on the high Himalayan plains, at 4000 metres altitude, the Dzogchen region covers an area of 5000 km2 in the Tibetan province of Kham, which is currently part of the Chinese province of Sichuan.

Most of the 10 000 people who live in this region are nomads, who move with their yak herds around the village of Dzogchen and live in harsh conditions: education is practically non-existent, health care is scarce, costly and inadequate, malnutrition and extreme poverty are rife.

Zangdok Palri Sambhota : School and orphanage

top space border

In 2002, in response to a request for help from the population of Dzogchen, the Zangdok Palri ASBL association inaugurated the school and orphanage, giving priority of place to orphans and children from the poorest families. Classes began in September 2002 with 25 children.

The children board at the school for most of the year, returning to their families during the spring and winter holidays when their circumstances permit.

Two Tibetan teachers teach Tibetan, Chinese, calligraphy and mathematics, and English classes are planned. The children are also taught dance, gymnastics and drama. Sponsor a child

Almost all the children come from nomad families who cannot contribute financially to their education. These children, and the orphans, need sponsors if they are to continue their education.

To sponsor a child costs €25 per month. This money is used to meet the needs of the school children (food, clothes, school equipment, medical care, heating, etc) and is equally shared amongst all the children.

Even if you are hesitant about becoming a sponsor, you can still help the school and orphanage by making a donation. Whichever way you choose to help, you are directly and practically contributing a brighter future for the children of Dzogchen.

Every contribution counts!

Help us to give a better future to the children of Dzogchen.

Project to improve the infrastructure

The two teachers are being temporarily housed in the village, but there is a pressing need to build accommodation for them.

The school also needs sanitary facilities more adapted to the hard climate and school benches. All these investments will cost around €20000.

Soon, more details on this new infrastructure project !

Help the nomad children of Dzogchen and their families to face the future with confidence: Support the Dzogchen school and orphanage by making a donation or sponsoring a child.

Zangdok Palri Institute

Patrul Rinpoche and the Zangdok Palri team are delighted to announce the founding of the Zangdok Palri Institute at Dzogchen in Tibet. The Institute will be the heart of the Zangdok Palri project, as the locus of study and exchange par excellence. It will also preserve the Tibetan culture and wisdom tradition.
